Full and Partial Dentures

When it comes to complete tooth replacement, dentures are one of the most commonly recognized pieces of dental equipment out there. Many of our patients say that while they knew about full dentures, they had never heard of partial dentures. Attuned Dental Care offers a wide variety of dental options for his patients, and our professional staff will do everything we can to make sure that your dental work is exactly what you expected.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are removable pieces of dental work that mimic the look and feel of your natural teeth. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth have been removed, and the entire arch of the mouth needs to be replaced.

There are two types of full dentures, immediate and conventional. Immediate dentures are placed immediately after the teeth are extracted, while a conventional denture requires the bone and gums to heal before fitting dentures. The conventional denture is ready around 3 months and up to a year after the teeth have been removed.

Immediate dentures are sized and created before the teeth are extracted. The major benefit is that patients do not have to be without teeth for those 3 months to a year of healing time. However, after an extraction, there is typically a change in the size of the gums. This can mean that immediate dentures require more adjustments to ensure a proper fit after the gums have healed.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures, or removable bridges, are used for patients who have still have at least some of the teeth along the upper or lower arch. Partial dentures are typically constructed with false teeth on top of a gum-colored plastic base. The whole structure is then attached to the existing teeth to hold it in place.

One of the main goals of partial dentures is to give the appearance and function of your missing teeth, but it also has the added benefit of helping to keep the remaining teeth in place. We often see that teeth can tend to drift or twist when there is no neighboring tooth to hold it in place. This can create additional issues for our patients if it is left untreated.

Denture Alternatives

There are a variety of other options that exist for patients outside of dentures. Some of these include dental implants or bridges. However, there are some patients who cannot receive dental implants because of the bone structure in their jaw.

Another factor is that cemented bridges and implants tend to be more expensive than dentures. If you are considering your options for replacing missing teeth, contact Attuned Dental Care today. Our staff has the experience and expertise that you need to make sure you make the best choice for your situation.

Benefits of Dentures

One of the biggest factors to patients selecting dentures can often come down to cost. In addition to being less expensive than other options, many dental insurances offer some type of coverage for dentures. If you are considering all of your options, call your insurance provider to make sure you understand your benefits.
